Seven Striggidy Straight

Ian Stewart

During the week-long streak:

50 runs scored, 16 runs allowed

Barmesssss! - 14 for 30 (.467), 3 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 10 RBI

Ian “Disco” Stewart - 11 for 32 (.344), 3 doubles, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 1 SB (we’ll forgive the 8 strikeouts to 1 walk)

Tulo - since returning from injury - 5 games played - 6 for 17 (.353), 1 double, 2 HR, 1 SB

Pitching - Awesome.  I don’t have time to look up the individual stats, but 16 runs allowed in 7 games, 6 of those games against teams with the 5th (MIL) and 6th (STL) highest run outputs in the NL this season.

Jim Tracy - 9 and 4 as Rockies skipper.

Life - Good.

Yay! Go Rockies!

Must I say anything more?

Abreana June 11th at 8:56 am

PS: What’s up with this disco-Stewart-ness?

Scott June 11th at 9:02 am

OK. I feel obligated to share at least some pitching stats, because those guys have been awesome.

Starters - 48 1/3 IP, 41 K, 34 H, 12 BB, 14 ER (2.61 ERA)
Bullpen - 14 2/3 IP, 8 H, 4 BB, 12 K, 2 ER (one was Grilli).

The Rockies scored 5 more runs in thefirst 2 games of their streak than their opponents have in all 7 games (21-16).

Ted June 11th at 9:28 am

Here’s the background on the Disco Stewart nickname:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disco_Stu#Disco_Stu

You’d never know that was his nickname from talking to him though, as Disco Stewart doesn’t advertise.

Abreana June 11th at 11:09 am

Thanks, Ted. That makes sense now. Disco Stewart.. who woulda thought.

Scott June 11th at 11:15 am

Ladies and Gentlemen - you heard it here first. Ian Stewart (possibly) LOVES disco!

Lauren June 11th at 2:13 pm

Do you think he has lucky goldfish in his shoes?

Ted June 12th at 7:51 am

Hmm…that would explain Ian’s love affair with HRs and Ks. Running at full speed can’t be easy with all that water sloshing around in your platform spikes.

Kylie June 12th at 11:04 am

I just want to let you guys know…1) i love the podcast! you guys are hilarious and 2) this site is so cool…i like talking to people who arent complete idiots…like the people on other sites…who are obnoxious and refuse to have any faith. so thanks :)

Ted June 12th at 12:53 pm

1) Thanks, Kylie! I’m flattered by the positive feedback, and I’ll go ahead and assume Scott is too.

2) I agree with you on the people who comment on this site. I get really frustrated with how comment sections on web sites inevitably end up clogged with people who just want to have angry tirades and bicker with each other. I’m constantly impressed with the intelligent and civil conversations people have in the comments on this site. It’s a reassuring sign that we’re reaching the right people with our little podcast!

Scott June 12th at 1:29 pm

Ted, don’t assume anything about me ever again. You know what happens when you assume, right? I punch you in the stomach.

First, let’s start with the obvious. Our last Beard of the Month winner doesn’t even a beard. It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. That’s totally lame. We suck.

Second, we’re always going off topic to talk about tacos or facial hair or something completely unrelated to Rockies baseball. We have no focus and lack discipline and it is obviously all your fault. Again, I am going to punch you in the stomach.

C – we don’t have adequate research to back up anything we say. Ted, I think your assessment of Mark Redman’s pitching abilities last year was grossly undeserved and your outspoken disdain of having him on the mound was obviously heard by the Rockies front office (avid listeners). Your unwarranted criticism inevitably led to a hardworking man losing his job in a tough economic climate. Clearly the 7.54 ERA was not due to poor pitching but was a result of pitching home games at the friendliest hitter’s park in the history of baseball (also the only reason Matt Holliday was a contender for the MVP when Rollins clearly deserved to win it). If I were you, I’d avoid walking alone at night. There might be a Redman lurking in the shadows, seeking his revenge, ready to punch you in the stomach at any moment. You deserve it. Jerk.

3 – Robble, Robble, Robble!!!

5 – Just about everything we say is wrong. I stopped doing my game predictions because I was terrible. You often struggle to complete a full, coherent sentence. Your the worst at talking English this side of Mississippi River.

VI – I like the Money Pit.

Scott June 12th at 1:39 pm

My bad, I misunderstood. I thought you all said you wanted more obnoxious, angry, bickering posts on the website. Sorry.

Kylie June 12th at 2:40 pm

and this is why i love the podcast and site!! hahahahahah!

Kylie June 12th at 2:40 pm

p.s. wheres the new podcast?

Scott June 12th at 2:49 pm

It’s coming tonight. We couldn’t do it last night so we are trying to get it up there before the game starts tonight. Ted is on his way home now. Pending traffic, we are going to start recording in about 45 minutes and get it posted as soon as we can. As usual, it’s all Ted’s fault.

Lauren June 12th at 3:35 pm

I know you guys always say that if we want to get involved in the show, to write in or comment on your blog. Here it goes - is there any chance we might be able to get some of this stomach punching into the podcast? I really think you guys have hit on something here (no pun intended), and it would add a certain special something to an otherwise incredibly dull, pointless hour that I spend bored out of my mind listening to you two yahoos jabber on about, well, who knows, I tend to fall asleep during the podcasts anyway. Real reason I moved away from Colorado: it help too many bad associations with listening to you guys.

Ugh, I think I need to go lie down, sip some L&P, munch on a nice mince pie, watch the All Blacks and listen to some Split Enz, that will set me right.

Abreana June 12th at 3:36 pm

Geez, you guys are hilarious!! I also love this Podcast and site! It’s so awesome. The people on this site produce actually-worth-reading comments, and Scott and Ted are such crack-ups it’s great. Even when the Rockies have their suckish moments, our hosts can give us a good laugh. Yay for Rockiestcast!

Abreana June 12th at 3:40 pm

Actually, in my opinion, Lauren, it’s the pointless, dull hour of nothingness that makes it so worth listening to. Although adding some stomach punching would make it a little more interesting, I agree.

Lauren June 12th at 4:36 pm

Abreana - I totally agree (well, the nothingness and the baseball talk, tied). The vast majority of my comment was pure and utter sarcasm, except the bit about watching the All Blacks, as watching the All Blacks is never a bad idea (particularly tonight when they beat up France in Auckland!).

Scott June 12th at 5:15 pm

I wish I got more rugby on tv here. I could go for watching the All Blacks. That pre-game ritual they do would intimidate the hell out of me if I was playing against them.

Abreana June 12th at 5:15 pm

I figured it was sarcasm, but sometimes you never know. ;)

Scott June 12th at 5:18 pm

We mention it in tonight’s cast. Sarcasm is tough to pick up in print. Especially if you don’t know the person writing it. Therefore, if I ever write anything in the blog that you disagree with, just chalk it up to sarcasm.

mtc June 12th at 10:29 pm

Can we get a man crush moment for Ubaldo? Consider his feats tonight:

-Going the distance in a close game, especially given Street has closed the last four games

-Doing the old show-bunt-and-pull-back-to-hit-it-past-the-charging-first-baseman-for-the-critical-rbi, but really doing more, that friggin’ ball was up at his eyes! the last pitcher i saw do that was julian taverez in 2006 with the Red Sox (and obviously that was interleague play too)

-Throwing 96mph several times in the 9th inning

-Going the distance, yeah said that already, but going the distance after giving up 4ER. I find it more impressive when a guy gets a complete game after giving up 3 or 4 instead of 0 or 1. It shows some serious character when you can take some damage and still get it done all the way.

Another come-from-behind. Another W. I remember thinking in 2007, it’s not so much the Rockies figure out how to win as they forget how to lose. Keep up the amnesia guys.

Scott June 13th at 12:16 am

Oooooooohbaldo! That’s all I have to say about that.

Lauren June 13th at 6:09 am

Was just reading the recap of tonight’s game on Yahoo Sports, and came across this quote from Oohbaldo regarding his performance:

“I am improving in every aspect of the game,” Jimenez said. “In the last couple of years if I started a game like that allowing two or three runs, I would be down. I wouldn’t have been able to get out of the fifth inning, but now I have a little confidence.”

Hmmm… confidence, you say? Methinks someone has been listening to Rockiescast. Also, methinks that saying ‘methinks’ is way too much fun.
