Can’t Stop Loving Tulo

Alan Embree’s
Leg is broken
His season could be done
And I’d say it was a painful sight
I sure hope he’s going to be alright

Split the series

Got cheap tacos
A Mancrush for Brad
Could use some more wins for Ubaldo

But sometimes that’s the way it goes
Even for the best

And I can’t stop loving Tulo
No, I can’t stop loving Tulo
No, I won’t stop loving Tulo
Why should I?

amazing! absolutely love it!!! i was laughing for a good couple minutes!!! keep up the great work!

Lauren (from New Zealand... sigh) July 13th at 2:31 am

Oh, great… THANKS, Scott. “A Mancrush for Brad”. Way to ruin the suspense. Guess I don’t even have to listen to the episode now.

Scott July 13th at 10:25 am

1. Was there even a question who the Mancrush would be after the end of Sunday’s game?

2. My bad. Had a rough day, wasn’t feeling well, the sun was in my eyes, the dog ate my homework, my alarm didn’t go off, I got a flat tire & other generic excuses. It never even occured to me that someone would read that before listening to the episode. I shall now give the first ever self-awarded C’mon Guy.

3. It’s my show and I’ll ruin it for everyone else if I want to!

Lauren July 13th at 1:41 pm

I forgive you, Scott. It’s my fault, really. I usually listen to the episode as soon as humanly possible, but I have returned to NZ and I forgot how everything is totally backwards down here in the southern hemisphere.

Kylie July 13th at 4:51 pm

so a little off topic, but im listening to your podcast now. and let me tell you it was very aggravating to be a rockies fan at the games this weekend. I went to two games, and when i was getting food i would hear cheers and i assumed the rockies made a good play, and got some braves out, and i would come back to my seat and the braves had scored a few runs. the amount of cheers for them though was about as much as when the HOME team scored runs. it was very aggravating. i made sure to yell and cheer as loud as i could to drown out the annoying braves fans around me. oh and excited for the san diego series, because im going to san diego for four days JUST to watch my rockies play!!! GO ROCKIES! and good luck to Marquis and Hawpe tomorrow!

Abreana July 13th at 6:38 pm

Scott… I don’t know if I even believe half of those excuses you made. The dog ate your homework? Please.

Lauren… What’s up with being in NZ again? Business? Family? “Cuz I feel like it?”

Kylie… Have fun in SD! I’m going to SD on the 22nd to visit some family. Bummer how I’ll literally just miss the series!

Me… I just finished some yummy tacos (they weren’t salty with tears this time!), and now I’m gonna load up Rockiescast on my computer (sucks I can’t do the dishes at the same time, cuz my stupid ipod broke, as I feel like reminding everyone cuz I’m so bummed about it).

SO HAPPY TACO DAY EVERYONE!!

Abreana July 13th at 6:38 pm

I think that was the most pointless post I’ve ever made.

Scott July 13th at 7:04 pm

Wishing everyone a Happy Taco Day is most certainly not pointless.

Lauren July 13th at 9:09 pm

Abreana - Happy Taco Day to you, as well! I’m in New Zealand as part of a study abroad year, and returned to Colorado for winter break. To be completely honest, one of the biggest reasons I went back was because I have a streak going of going to a Rockies home game at least once a year every year they’ve existed, and I didn’t want end that streak. Plus, Colorado in the summer is just amazing, and MUCH warmer than it is here! Brrrr! I managed to get to one game of each series I was in town for (Rays, Pirates, D-Backs, Nats, Braves), and a Sky Sox game, so all in all, good trip!

mike July 13th at 11:10 pm

I’ve been to a fair number of Rockies games with big-market opponents in the past couple years, Mets, Cubs, Phillies and Dodgers, and really the Dodger’s fans were the only ones that pissed me off. Coors Field is definitely a friendly place to watch your team on the road, but I feel like mostly the away team’s fans kind of get the vibe and are least pretty respectful.

As for Atlanta, you have to consider until the Marlins show up in 1993 the Braves had about a fifth of the lower 48 (geographically and maybe even in population) all to themselves, and even more recently, the Rays and Marlins are just sort of hangin’ out there on that phallic land mass between the Atlantic and the Gulf. And I really doubt the Nats have managed to steal many Braves fans away up to now. Throw in the fact that the Braves were massively successful during the time a lot of people who have moved to Denver from the South were growing up, a Coors field packed with Braves fan may be disappointing but I think it’s hardly suprising.

And that said, I’d rather watch a game with a 15,000 screaming Rockies fans and 15,000 screaming Cubs fans than just 15,000 politely applauding Rockies fans. Until we reach the point that home games against big market teams are consistently sold-out and Rockies fans can not get in, I don’t think you can blame the out of town fans or even the Rockies organization for trying to bring them in. It’s either the fault of the Rockies fans, or the fault organization *for the product it puts out*. I definitely agree it’d be nice to see more Rocky fans in the seats against the big market teams, but I don’t think it’s the worst thing in world. I haven’t gone to a Red Sox game at Fenway since I was a little kid but, I would imagine a 99% home-team crowd 82 games a year gets a little boring.

Kylie July 14th at 12:46 pm

lauren - that sucks that your back in NZ but at least you got to see some games!!!!

and yay to happy taco days!!! i find those disgusting tacos so satisfying just knowing why im eating them…haha.

abreana - thats sucks that you just miss the series :(

Scott July 14th at 1:37 pm

It sucks that Lauren can’t go to anymore Rox games, but I wouldn’t say that it sucks that she’s back in New Zealand. I’ve heard great things about NZ. Especially their tooth brush fence.

Lauren July 14th at 1:53 pm

NZ isn’t bad, but to be honest I’m still very, very homesick! Sort of feel like I had to be forced onto that plane. It’s pretty cool to be in Wellington, though. I can actually see Parliament from my room! Except when I walk by there’s some sad-looking guy named Bryan sitting outside sighing a lot and trying to give himself a pep-talk…

Abreana July 14th at 9:48 pm

Lauren - that’s a bummer you see the Rockies less often. (Hopefully you still watch them on TV!) When will you get to move back home? And, uh, Scott, what’s a tooth brush fence?

It’s also a bummer that the NL lost the All-Star game. It was a great game to watch, no doubt. Those guys are amazing players. But I really wanted NL to break that darn losing streak… I think what ticked me off the most was that stupid over-the-wall catch that robbed Hawpe of his homer. I’m still mad about that. Grrr.

Scott July 14th at 10:42 pm

The Toothbrush Fence was a Flight Of The Chonchords reference, although I just read that apparently there is an actual toothbrush fence (fence made of toothbrushes) not far from Hamilton, NZ.

Did anyone catch the Taco Bell All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game after the homerun derby? There was some fantastic mustache power on display when Rollie Fingers drove in Goose Gossage early in the game.

And who would have guessed Nelly was so good at softball? That man has the heart of a champion!

Lauren July 14th at 11:30 pm

Abreana - depending on when my exams are, I’ll get home in either late October or early-to-mid November, so I’ll at least be home by Thanksgiving, which will be very nice. I’ve subscribed to MLB’s GameDay Audio thing, so I can listen to all of the KOA broadcasts, but internet here is *terrible*, so I can’t stream any video, sadly. There are a couple games a week on the ESPN we get here, but they’re 1) usually not Rockies games, 2) often on in the middle of the night, when I’m sleeping, or 3) on during daytime, but superseded by rugby. It’s actually a rule where I live that if there’s rugby on, anything else gets turned off. Want extra salt on that Carl Crawford-shaped wound? http://tinyurl.com/nr3cfp

I haven’t seen the toothbrush fence, but I hope to someday… although right now, that seems about as likely as me seeing the sun (read: unlikely).

Kylie July 15th at 8:32 am

lauren, there is a sad guy named bryan? what is he doing? does he normally sit out there and give himself pep talks? just curious….

it was dissapointing about the all star game, because that should have been hawpes homer! wouldve made a difference in the game.

Scott July 15th at 9:10 am

I think Bryan is just deep in thought as he comtemplates how to get out of the matrix.

We did learn something during the All-Star Game. A-Rod makes a lot of money. Texeira makes a lot of money. Kevin Youkilis plays both of their positions for less money. Therefore Youkilis is the most valuable player in all of baseball. Thanks for the insight Tim McCarver. You’re Woody Paige-esque logic is exactly what I look for in an All-Star broadcaster.

Ted July 15th at 10:25 am

I especially liked how McCarver made his point as though Youkilis could play both positions simultaneously. In his universe, the ideal roster would just be a catcher, a pitcher, an outfielder, and a utility infielder.

After two nights listening to commentary from Joe Morgan, Steve Phillips, and Tim McCarver, I think my baseball IQ has dropped about 20 points. I’ve already forgotten what a force out is.

Abreana July 15th at 10:58 am

That’s okay, Ted. We still like listening to Rockiescat, even if you don’t seem to know what you’re talking about 75% of the time. In fact, I was just thinkning of one of the first Rockiestcast episodes I listened to. I think I was sick with a cold, and I was lying in bed, and you guys wouldn’t stop talking about the WBC. I wanted to punch the computer I got so sick of it. Other first epiosodes I listened to were just ramblings during spring training. Lots of pointless stuff. But I hung in there, and now I can’t imagine my week without the good ol’ Rockiescast to listen to. My point is: If you and Scott all of the sudden started talking about real baseball and stuff relating to baseball, I think I’d have to stop listening to your podcast… because I don’t get enough beards and pocket lint as it is, even with you guys rambling on about it. Speaking of beards, those were some pretty awesome mustaches, Scott. Kudos to them.

Abreana July 15th at 11:00 am

Rockiescat? Thinkning? Rockiestcast?

It’s still early.

Lauren July 15th at 3:52 pm

Kylie - the whole Bryan thing is another Flight of the Conchords reference. Bret and Jemaine meet “Bryan, the Prime Minister of New Zealand”, and he’s a rather pathetic man who believes fully in the Matrix.

Ted July 16th at 6:59 am

Oh Abreana, you shouldn’t have mentioned the WBC. Now you’ve got me thinking about it again. Remember how ridiculous the Netherlands’ pitching was? And that Korean dude who got kneed in the head so hard his batting helmet shattered? We’d better relive these moments and more for about 45 minutes in the next episode!

Scott July 16th at 7:27 am

And let us not forget the leading hitter for Team USA, Mr. Christopher Domenic Iannetta.

Abreana July 16th at 8:15 am

Haha, I’ll look forward to it guys! (not sarcastic)

Kylie July 17th at 12:00 am

Oh wow, I seem really out of touch with these references. I’ve seen the show like once so I guess that’s why I don’t understand. Lol.

Reports from San Diego: nowhere near as cool as Coors!! The music and inbetween innings shows were boring. I missed watching skmeone run across the field in 20 sec. Nice to see some scattered Rockies fan. Overall fun, but if your not a kid person and don’t want a lot of kids and ridiculous chants (birthday songs, other weird songs, etc) DONT sit in the bleacher seats. Getting good seats tomorrow night!! Hope there is more to report!! Go Rockies!!! Btw, Smiths homer was hit 2 rows down from me!!!

Lauren July 17th at 2:28 am

Kylie, you really should watch Flight of the Conchords. It’s hilarious, although I think it’s probably one of those things that you have to watch a bunch of, as the humor’s a bit odd and I think it takes a while to get into. It’s, at times, very New Zealand-y humor, which is maybe why I like it so much. Lots of jokes about how terrible Australians are and such.

Hope you’re at least enjoying watching the Rockies in San Diego. Now that I think about it, I haven’t seen the Rox play anywhere other than Coors (and Mile High, way back in the day). Has anyone else seen the Rox out of Denver? Have you enjoyed it?

As the Rockies won tonight, and Kaz Matsui and our beloved Houston Astros shut out the Dodgers, the Rockies are currently the only NL West team riding a win streak. Let’s hope that continues all weekend!

Kylie July 17th at 1:15 pm

Ya I saw the first couple episodes on DVD with my friends…it’s definitely odd. But I’ll try and watch it more. I’ve heard great things about it.

I’m very much enjoying my time here. I’m going to tonights game earlier to watch rockies batting practice and maybe try and pick up an autograph? I don’t know how that would work but I’m going to try. I didn’t mention this yesterday but shouldve. I have a conspiracy theory bout the padres. They place their bullpen fenced off in left center field. The visitors bull pen, down the right field line. Literally in foul terriory. Evebryone in the bullpen sits in foul ground, with no protection from foul balls. A couple of balls hit toward them had our relievers jumping to avoid being hit! I think the padres are trying to hurt or scare our bullpen to make hitting off of them easier. And they literally warm up a foot away from the foul line!! Very dangerous…

Scott and Ted, have you seen the Rockies play the nationals in dc?

Let’s keep the winning streak alive to tonight! Go Rockies!

Lauren July 17th at 1:41 pm

Hmmm… Rockies’ bullpen in the right field foul territory? Are you thinking what I’m thinking?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgAwhBs45jk

Now they only need to get enough money to pay off one of the Padres’ employees who sits along the fence to get in on it.

Abreana July 18th at 8:07 am

Kylie - Hope you enjoyed the game last night! How was it? Yay for the win! Whoohoo! Let’s keep it up!

In answer to Lauren’s question, I’ve seen a Rockies and Giants game in California… but I was like five, so I don’t remember anything about it. Other than that game all my Rox games have been at Coors. I’m only 15, and only started being a Rockies fan summer of ‘07, so you have to cut me some slack. :)

I’m going to a birthday party today. Yay!

Kylie July 18th at 7:06 pm

Just a couple cool more tidbits. Met atkins last night got an autograph and pic with him. Also got streets and corpas’s autograph! Had a great time at the game!! It was fun screaming I love stewArt ( in response to those saying Stewart sucks) because i was about four rows away from him!

Abreana, don’t worry, I’m just 18 and became a fan last summer, you’ll have your chance to see them!!

Scott July 19th at 1:27 pm

Sorry for the absence but Ted and I were up in NY for a wedding. Ted may have caught a few more parks than I have, but I’ve seen the Rox play in DC and at Shea Stadium. Will see them again in DC this year and up at Citi Field next week. We were also at Game 1 of the NLDS in Philly in ‘07. I think that may be it for me.

Lauren July 19th at 1:46 pm

Scott - Colorado is absolutely lovely in the summer. Think about it.

Scott July 19th at 2:54 pm

I have seen them at Coors. I was just mentioning the places outside of Denver that I’ve see the Rox play. I assumed Coors was a given. My bad.

Abreana July 19th at 3:55 pm

Sounds like you had a great time at the game! I love going to baseball games. It’s cool that you’re 18. How long have you been a fan?

Kylie July 19th at 9:51 pm

Abreana - I’ve only been a fan for a little over a year. But I LOVE going to games or watching them. Great to see younger people into baseball!
