Awesome Todd

 All Hail Todd

When he rolls up his sleeves
He ain’t just putting on the ritz

Our Todd is an awesome Todd

There’s thunder in his footsteps
Purple lightning in his fists

Our Todd is an awesome Todd

The mighty Todd was born
In Knoxville, Tennessee
And it wasn’t for no reason
That he earned my love
Cheap tacos are always close
When Todd is in the lineup because
Our Todd is an awesome Todd

Our Todd is an awesome Todd
A man who I’m in awe of
With wisdom, power and glove
Our Todd is an awesome Todd

And when the game was scoreless
And was void of a hit

Our Todd is an awesome Todd

He got hurt playing football
Now everything’s alright

Our Todd is an awesome Todd

Power and contact
he poured out on the pitchers
Patience and keen eye, finds his way on base
I hope that you have not
Too quickly forgotten that
Our Todd is an awesome Todd

Our Todd is an awesome Todd
A man who I’m in awe of
With wisdom, power and glove
Our Todd is an awesome Todd

Which song?

Bummer that Jeff Kingery is apparently a major jerk. Jack and Jeff are a great team, I don’t mind Mark Johnson but his baritone is perhaps a bit too soothing for broadcasting a game where basically nothing is happening 95% of the time.

Jeff’s home run call is vastly superior to Jack’s, by orders of magnitude. Touch ‘em all time is cute, but you just can’t say it with the excitement a Rockies home run deserves. I got big-time goose bumps just this afternoon from Jeff’s IT AIN’T COMING BACK on Hawpe’s blast. I hope maybe there is some way Kingery can fix the situation, but it looks pretty grim for him coming 2010.

Or if you prefer something a little more upbeat - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgBNQWR4a-0&feature=fvw

Yeah Mike, I agree on Jeff having the superior home run call. In fact, I think it’s likely one of the best in the game. It conveys the necessary excitement of the moment and doesn’t get too cutesey or gimickey. “Touch ‘em all time” bothers me for exactly those reasons. It reduces a dramatic moment in sports to a fuzzy little catch phrase that leaves me feeling like I’m cuddling with a teddy bear. And while I do like cuddling with teddy bears, there’s a time and place for that. It’s called “the office”.

During college I spent a lot of long drives through upstate New York listening to John Sterling rattle off such gems as “A THRILLA’ FROM GODZILLA” (Matsui) and the “THE MILKMAN DELIVERS” (Melky Cabrera) and “AN ABOMB! FROM AROD!) so as you can imagine my tolerance for gimmickry in home run calls is pretty high at this point. Fortunately I was long gone by the time Texeria joined the team and never had to be subjected to the border-line self parody of Sterling’s “A TEX(T) MESSAGE TO RIGHT/LEFT!”

Anyway listening to the game right now, except for home run calls, I think Jack calls most plays just as well, and his color commentary is maybe even a little better that Jack.

Also listening right now CAN THE ROCKIES HIT A RUN SCORING DOUBLE WITHOUT HAVING THE HITTER GET TAGGED OUT BETWEEN SECOND AND THIRD? SOMETIMES ITS OK TO STOP AT SECOND GUYS!

I almost have to think the rest of the league has figured out that cutting off the throw to the plate is a guaranteed out on the advancing runner. I like the aggression but c’mon guys.

Not really sure how I feel about the whole Jeff Kingery thing. 1) Dude, lay off the bus driver! Seriously! 2) I think I like Kingery more because of familiarity than anything else, really. I definitely prefer when Corrigan is a part of the lineup, so to speak.

I’d also like to put a congratulations out there in the world to our man Spilly, who was excused from tonight’s game against the D’Backs, as his wife went into labor in the morning. How much you want to bet that kid comes into the world with some amazing facial hair?

Ted July 21st at 7:00 am

It’s always a good day when humanity can add another Spilly to the roster. Happy taco day, or the happiest taco day?

Scott July 21st at 7:20 am

Cheap tacos.
Baby Spilly.
Second place in the NL West.
Leading the Wild Card race.
31-10 over the past 41 games.
Going to see the Rox in NY next week.
Life is good.

Kylie July 21st at 2:09 pm

scott, life is not good. with tacos, baby spilly, second in division first in wild card, and a great record? life is GREAT! or AMAZING! not good is an understatement :)

Wow. Our Todd is an awesome Todd, indeed. That should be a T-shirt. That everyone should be wearing while screaming “MVP!” at Coors as Todd eclipses Pujols in RBI and BA come September (HR might be asking a bit much even for our omnipotent Todd).

Scott July 22nd at 6:40 pm

Let Pujols have the MVP. Let him take the triple crown. It won’t matter to the Toddfather when the Rox take the NLCS from the Cards to get to the World Series.

Well said. :)
