Identity Crisis
Oh, what a tangled (world-wide) web we baseball fans weave. Today’s postings on Purple Row make for a very confusing game of Six Degrees of Separation. At 11 this morning, Poseidon’s Fist posted a very thorough scouting report on the Mets. Give it a read: you’ll learn lots of interesting stuff. Before you do though, take a look at the picture and caption that lead the post. This is what started to throw my world off its axis. The handsome, beanied, bewildered “Mets fan” on the left is me. I drove up to check out the new ballpark shortly before the season started, when Citi Field hosted a Georgetown/St. John’s baseball game for its very first public event. The troubling part about this for me is that it’s clear a lot of research goes into Poseidon’s Fist’s Know Your Foe postings. So I at least have to consider that Poseidon’s Fist correctly identified me as a Mets fan but I have yet to realize my own loyalties. That would be quite the existential crisis if I were to learn after all these years that I do not, in fact, like the Rockies.

However, I had to push those fears aside as Purple Row blew my mind with another post two hours later. This time Russ posted a video clip of his phone interview on SNY.tv’s “New York Baseball Today”. At this point, I had to lie down and take a nap. You see, the regular host of “New York Baseball Today” is none other than friend of Rockiescast and SNY.tv senior editor Ted Berg. The very same Ted Berg is the gentleman with the wonderful hair in the middle of the picture on Poseidon’s Fist’s post. On top of that, consider the reason why Mr. Berg wasn’t available to host “New York Baseball Today” this week: he’s on his honeymoon with the bewildered Mets fan on the right in that infamous photo. (Her name is Liz and she’s awesome, in case anyone is curious.)
Hoo boy, time for another nap. I only hope that I’ve confused someone else as much as this whole situation has confused me.

you could at least let us know what that hat is you’re wearing. i think i can maybe make out the CR, but it certainly looks more blue than purple…

You’re right about it being more blue than purple, because it’s a Dodgers hat.
Just kidding, obviously I wouldn’t wear something that unnacceptable. It’s actually a Georgetown hat, worn to support my alma mater in their effort to win a baseball game (and certainly not worn to support their use of aluminum bats).

ted! i hope your more of a rockies fan then a mets fan!!! and crazy story! so you were just checking out purple row and saw a pic of yourself? super weird!

Don’t worry, Kylie. I’m not a Mets fan at all. I was a little scared and confused yesterday when Purple Row ID’d me as a Mets fan, but my rotten mood after watching that game last night left no doubt as to my loyalties.

okay good! …ya last night…lets forget about that game. are you and scott in new york to see the rockies play?
Ted July 28th at 3:35 pm
I’m still in Virginia watching the games on TV, but Scott is up there this week catching some Rockies games/chilling with his fam on Long Island. He’s actually going to be sitting with a bunch of contributors to Rockiescast and Purple Row at Wednesday night’s game. I just hope they’re loud and purple enough that we can identify them in the stands during the broadcast.
Scott July 28th at 3:46 pm
I’ll certainly be purple enough in my solid purple shirt, but it might be tough to see me sitting in the upper deck.

I’m behind two episodes. That’s what I get for a broken ipod and a week-long vacation. Both episodes are hour-long ones, too. Maybe I’ll get to them tonight.
Ted July 30th at 7:22 am
Hopefully that rain-out last night gave you a chance to catch up! If not, I promise the last two episodes aren’t quite as painful to listen to as the last two Rockies games have been to watch.
Abreana July 30th at 8:30 am
Okay, good. That’s reassuring. I think I’ll go listen to them now.

You guys wanna hear something cool? The abbreviation for the Rockies is “CR,” right? Rockiescast abbreviation could be “RC.” All you do is switch the ‘C’ and the ‘R.’ Isn’t it great??

Ooh, that’s pretty clever! I’ve never noticed that. And for some reason, I’ve suddenly got a craving for cola.
