+20 (and other random thoughts)
With last night’s awesome win, the Rox are 20 game above .500 for the first time in franchise history. This will not be surprising to you if you already knew that coming into this game the Rox were at 19 games above .500 for the first time in franchise history.
Is it just me, or was Mr. Late Night doing his Todd Helton impression in that last at bat? High-pressure situation, fouling off a lot of pitches with 2 strikes, finally putting the ball in play in just the right spot to win the game. Six inches to the right and Brandon Phillips makes the play and the Rockies lose.
Joe Beimel should buy Matt Daley dinner, or maybe carry around his pink backpack for a week, for bailing him out last night. A veteran pitcher should not come into the game, walk a guy on four pitches, and then rely on a rookie to get out of the jam. Fortunately, Matt Daley is awesome. I see a direct correlation between Beimel’s poor performance and his unfortunate lack of beard.
During the post-game interview with Smith, Spilly got him with a shaving cream pie to the face. Sure it was funny, but Spilly should not be allowed anywhere near shaving cream until he grows his beard back.
Right after that happened, Alanna Rizzo totally ratted Spilly out. Not cool Alanna.
I knew all along that the winning run in this game would be scored by Jason Marquis. I swear.
If people can be awarded honorary degrees from universities, I see no reason why we can’t award Jason Hammel an honorary win for last night’s game. I think I like him more and more every time he pitches.
Too bad Yorvit’s streak ahd to end, but at least it didn’t end ten days ago like I would have expected.
Thank you Ramon Troncoso. The Dodger’s reliever started the 9th inning with a throwing error, allowing the lead-off man to get two second. One sac bunt and two intentional walks later, the bases were loaded for Mark Reynolds. Troncos proceeded to walk Reynolds to lose the game, bringing the Rox to within 2 1/2 games of the Dodgers.

Wow Scott, those are some random thoughts. But they’re good ones, and that’s all that counts.
If Hammel can’t get an honorary win for last night’s ridiculous performance, Jason Marquis deserves one. I know he never set foot on the mound, but he was busting it around 3rd to score on that play. I guess a starting pitcher has to capitalize on the rare opportunity to score a walk-off run.

Seeing as there are clearly too many players deserving of an honorary win for us to possible decide who should be given the W, how about we just add an extra game to the team win column and call it a day? I’ll call Bud, see what he can do about that…

Another random (non-Rockies related) thought - When you are at work and hungry because you haven’t eaten breakfast, there is no better feeling than the one you have when you find a box of Honey Nut Cheerios in your drawer that you completely forgot was there.

Mmm-mmm, now I’m hungry, Scott. Thanks a bunch. *rolls eyes* Now I have to go eat something, and it’s all your fault.

Miss watching the Rox, trying to stay connected thanks to our friends on Rockiescast. We’ve been busy also, ready for our season. We’d love to do a show this week maybe middle of next week. Check us out boys. http://www.broncoscast.com

oh damn Lauren beat me to it.
life is beautiful.

It seems the Rockies are most dangerous when they’re down to their last strike. Ridiculous.
Lauren September 12th at 4:05 am
Ridiculous is right. I need to go out tomorrow and buy flowers to celebrate. Maybe I’ll just go skipping through a meadow and pick my own, that should suffice.
Drew September 12th at 1:39 pm
Didn’t see the game, what’s with the Red hats? Crazy Finish, love these boys. Go Rox, P.S. Rocktober is way better than R-April- sounds off.
Lauren September 12th at 6:59 pm
Drew - red hats were same ones they wore for the 4th of July, the CR had stars and stripes in it (this time, was for 9/11 anniversary).
Abreana September 14th at 4:03 pm
Yeah I figured it was for 9/11. Certainly seemed like a more solemn day.
