C’mon Scott
That’s right, I give myself a C’mon Guy. I really dropped the ball with my Cardinals preview in the latest episode. It’s probably because we rushed the episode a bit to get it up before the start of tonight’s game, but that’s no excuse. Earlier this month, I sent Ted a text telling him to turn on the Cardinals game to check out SS Brendan Ryan and his old-timey look. He’s one of those Cardinals players that wears those awesome, striped high socks that would give any player that old school appearance. But he takes it a step further and has a very old-timey looking mustache, the type wouldn’t look out of place on an old black and white photo of a boxer.
If such an award existed, the Cards would be the leading contenders for the Beards of the Season - Team category. With Brendan Ryan, Ryan Franklin, and Jason LaRue, they would be very tough to beat, especially considering Goose Gossage and Rollie Fingerswere on separate teams for the All-Star Celebrity softball game. Perhaps the D-backs could put up a fight if they sign Salvador Dali to complement Clay Zavada.

I recommend clicking on all the links in this one. There’s some great facial hair.

You failed me, Scott.

thank god. was not able to watch/listen to game, didn’t get koa on until 9:15pm, but just in time (literally, the last 5 seconds of the broadcast) to hear the studio guy say ‘let’s do it again tomorrow’, and sighed an epic sigh of relief. 8 games. EIGHT GAMES TO GO. haven’t been worried about SF since the DLR ended their season last week, but the whole bobby cox retiring thing makes me extremely nervous. the already uber-hot braves given the extra motivation of getting the old coot another series so 2010 can be a glorious farewell tour. but just now, confirming on wikipedia that they braves did in fact win at least one series with him at the helm, i noticed he was only 68, having thought he must have been at least 85. i mean if you’re only 68 and look that old, forget it.
but who cares about all that. we just beat the guy who dead to rights if the stats are to be believed oughta be the cy young winner, even if it was in fact some silly-sally reliever who took the loss. cookie monster looking good, could be clutch. hammel and dlr are the only starters who have been good of late, and i still believe in ubaldo, but imagine if cookie is miracuosly back to top form? i’ve been nervous about the potential starters for a playoff series for a while now, but if cookie’s for real this time, the sky is the limit.

Can I have a Man Crush on Barmes if I’m not a guy? I heart walk-off double plays.

How do you guys update your “popular tags” segment of your site?
Scott September 28th at 6:44 am
When you add tags to each post, the poopular tags on the homepage should automatically update.

Kingery to, uh ‘retire’. Announced on KOA today. I’m sure google can provide a link. Hard to say if the Rockies just told him he couldn’t come back, or if he decided just to avoid the issue…or if he actually just wanted to retire independent of the recent unpleasantness.
Certainly losing a great homerun call. One can only speculate as to who the replacement might be. Scott and Ted, I’d recommend you get your resumes in soon (preferably as a two-for-one color commentary tandem).
Regardless of what the injury report said, I’m pretty sure Holiday was hungover, not sick. Celebrated clinching the central division a little too hard Saturday night.
Scott September 28th at 7:46 pm
Clearly that was what happened with Holliday. He forgot what drinking at altitude can do to a man.
mtc September 28th at 11:52 pm
Can’t say I blame him. I forget what drinking at altitude can to do a man once or twice a week.
Ted September 29th at 6:43 am
Ooh…that’s a great theory about Holliday. He didn’t seem too flu-like when he was spraying champagne all over the visitors’ clubhouse Saturday night.
And I doubt sending our resumes to KOA would do much good. We never get positive reactions, which is surprising given how strong the resumes are. Mine consists of a sheet of paper with “Ted is good. Ted is great.” written in 72-point font and an audio tape of me making a variety of fart noises into a microphone. Instead of a traditional resume (like mine), Scott just mails bacon to potential employers. In all honesty, there’s room for more variety in my fart noises, but Scott’s bacon is fantastic!

Hey Just Wanted TO Shout At You Guys im a new listener and i really like the over views and your guys opinons! one thing i was sad you guys didnt go over was the E.Y. And Gonzalez Play! that was a good Play! E.Y. Going for stealing and Gonzalez hitting the ball hard to get E.Y. Home! all in all i like your pod cast i listen to it when im at work now listening to all the old ones too and they are very well put together! One Question Whats Your Thoughs on Ubaldo and Cook? I feel Ubalo is a GREAT pitcher but he over thinks things! sometimes when the game gets tight he tends to think more then he should! Cook is a great pitcher but is it his time to shine? what are your guys thoughts on that? Oh PUT MY BOY IANNETTA IN! ^^
Scott September 29th at 6:50 pm
Welcome aboard Ty! That play definitely was a good one, but for the sake of everyone’s sanity we can’t always mention all of the good ones or you’d have to listen to us for way too long.
As for Ubaldo over-thinking, I think because he is so good it is real easy to forget that Ubaldo is only 25 years old and prior to this season only had 50 major league starts under his belt. Besides having filthy stuff, I think he has proven that he is also very smart on the mound, which leads me to believe that any over-thinking that he might be doing now will naturally be taken care of as he gains a little more experience.
If Cook is healthy and can stay that way, I think he will certainly shine the remainder of this season and into the post-season. He doesn’t get frazzled out there and is a guy I would definitely want on the mound in any big game, particularly at Coors Field, given his ability to get batters to keep the ball on the ground.

Almost forgot the last part. I am a big Chris Iannetta fan, but I wouldn’t think about pulling Yorvit out of the lineup the way he has been hitting unless he needs the rest.
Ted September 29th at 10:26 pm
Wow Ty, good call on putting Chris Iannetta into the game! If he had gotten in sooner, maybe the game wouldn’t have taken 11 innings. It’s much more exciting this way though, and I’m sure that was Jim Tracy’s thinking all along.

let’s discuss the utter score board watching strategic genuis of how the rockies won this game. game starts, the Marlins are up 4-1 in Atlanta. Rockies put a run board, and before long, the Marlin’s are feeling sufficiently hopeless (because a Rockies win knocks ‘em out regardless of the outcome of their), that they let Braves jump back in it to tie. Jason Marquis being the smart guy he is, pretends to unintentionally walk in the go ahead run. And sure enough, the Marlins see that faint glimmer of hope, retake the lead and win the game.
But it hardly ends there. With a 5-2 lead going into the top of the 9th, the Rockies know the Braves are still sitting in their clubhouse watching the game. Do we really believe Huston Street, with only one blown save the entire year, would actually choke in this situation? Absolutely not. The Braves, already despairing over their loss, are deliberately given a sudden glimmer of hope of their own, only to have it crushed two innings later, at about 12:15am EDT. Let’s see how the wake up from that tomorrow.
New theory: Kingery may be a jerk in real life, but the Rockies motivation to win one for the guy who’s been there since the beginning trumps the Braves motivation to get another for Cox.
Though I was a little sad knowing that might be the last Rockies walk-off to the tune of “that ball is going…IT AIN’T COMING BACK!”. Hopefully we’ll get to hear that call many more times over the next month and half, whether or not it’s for a game winner.
