Purple Rocktober!
Aaron Cook is on the mound lookin’ like the Cook of old
And Tulo’s got a bat you’d think was made of solid gold
Todd Helton’s got the goat again and he’s swingin’ like he means it
And EY’s running first to home so fast you barely see it
Yorvit has become Mr. Clutch, CarGonza’s bat goes “THUD!”
DLR is downright nasty and Ubaldo is a stud
It’s been a long, long season and the Rockies have fought hard
And now for all their effort they have clinched (at least) the Wild Card
Barmes with a crazy catch he maybe never made
Iannetta’s walk-off homer brought us a cheap taco day
Ian Stewart avoiding double plays, looking like an acrobat
Huston Street back to close games, how freakin’ sweet is that?
Now that we’ve clinched the Wild Card the journey doesn’t end
The Rockies still have one more important message left to send
The Wild Card is fine and good, but you know what would be best?
To bust out the brooms, sweep the boys in blue, and watch the Rockies take the west!

Oh, Tone Loc! You give us the beats that echo the pounding of our hearts! October 1st might just become my new favorite day of the year.

Hey, great rap! I am a Colorado ex-pat living here in Cleveland, Ohio. It was fun to get home and watch the MLB network show the last inning as my beloved Rockies clinch a playoff birth.
Fun fact of the day: This is the third time the Rockies are going to the playoffs. The first time, they clinched at home on October 1, 1995. The next time, they clinched at home on October 1, 2007. Oh, where was the game today, and what day is it?

Tom, you beat us to it. Ted mentions the Rocktober 1st coincidence (or is it?) on the new podcast that will be posted shortly. And Lauren, you beat us to it too, as I’m sure that when you mentioned this becoming your favorite day of the year that you were referring to that same coincidence (or is it?).
Lauren October 2nd at 5:51 am
Yup, referring to that same coincidence. Coincidentally, it’s also the day in the year 2009 I decided to come home from New Zealand before the NLDS starts. Funny, that.

That’s a great coinicidence!! I love that. October 1st is definitely my new favorite day of the year.

Favorite day of the year for now… until the Rox win the World Series.
Abreana October 2nd at 11:37 am
Oooh yeah, definitely.

I was a bit nervous over the question of what month it will be if the Rockies are playing in the World Series after Rocktober 31st, until Ted dropped ‘Rocktember’ with such confidence and aplomb in the latest rcast, and my anxieties were instantly swept away, in the same manner that the Rockies will hopefully be sweeping the Dodgers once or twice over the next few weeks.

corrigan called tulo’s hr tonight with (approximately) …”that one’s driven deep to (direction)…how about out of the yard?”
and of course ruined everything with ‘touch ‘em all time for tulo for the 32nd time’. ‘touch ‘em all time followed by ‘for the X time’ being just that much worse. i actually think ‘how about out of the yard?’ isn’t that bad if he just stops right there. the real problem isn’t so much the phrase itself, but that it necessarily has to come after the fact of the home run has been established. kingery’s call, like all good hr calls, is what actually informs you the deep drive was in fact a home run call.
regardless i do hope they keep corrigan on board after kingery goes. y

ok last post for the night, i promise, they just had a clip of mcdaniels on koa talking about how the rox making the playoffs brings excitement to the whole denver sports scene, which is great. but then he goes on to talk about how he has experienced the excitement of coaching on a winning football team in a city where the baseball team is making a playoff run, apparently not remembering just who said baseball team ended up defeating to finish off said playoff run.
but i’m just going to pretend he was talking about to 2004 (which might be fair, because the baseball team’s success actually correlated with a superbowl win that time).

Coach Josh is really developing a reputation around Denver for failing to consider the sensitivities of other parties before opening his mouth. Luckily, there’s no whiny baby of a franchise quarterback to alienate with this Red Sox talk. I’m willing to let this one slide if the Rockies and Broncos keep winning.
