In an unexpected move

Marquis

The Rockies have offered arbitration to Jason Marquis. Presumably, this was just so they can receive a compensatory draft pick when he signs with another team, but it still seems a bit risky to me. What if he accepts? Nobody expects him to, but the option is on the table. Not that I’d be opposed to having him back, but Marquis doesn’t seem to fit into the 2010 plans. Neither does the salary he would receive through the arbitration process.

I think they’re doing this on the off-chance that Marquis declines arbitration but his half-beard accepts. That way they’d still get a compensation pick in the draft for losing Marquis, and they’d pay fair value to retain a half-beard in case any players have cold faces or become dangerously unscruffy.

Jack Corrigan doing another bang-up job in the KOA booth this afternoon in his second stint as Bronco’s color commentator!.

It was definitely surreal the first time I heard it. All those football terms coming out of Jack’s mouth just didn’t sit right. But overall he does a pretty good job, his problem in baseball is he gets his words tripped up too much on play-by-play, which isn’t a problem for him in football (since only Dave Logan may describe events as they actually happen)

Mike, do you happen to know if Corrigan verbally abused a bus driver on the way out of Arrowhead? Obviously, that’s the true mark of a great KOA sports broadcaster.

I think Bronoco’s abuse of the Chiefs was enough for one day. Jack seems like a genuinely nice guy, and I’ll be very sad if they decide to install a whole new team this year. Though obviously if they’re willing to put Jack on with former Cleveland Brown and Ride Home co-host Dave Logan for the Broncos game, they must like him enough.

Total chaos in baseball in today! Still isn’t clear if Cliff Lee is going to Seattle, imagine Halladay and Lee with the Phils lineup, that is a total nightmare.

And the Red Sox fill their desperate need for bats with…an 80 million dollar replacement in the rotation for DiceK’s corpse. Me, I would have just thrown a couple million out for a Pedro farewell tour.
