Victory Is Mine!

rings-and-a-half-smoke

This upcoming spring will mark my third year coaching Little League Baseball.  The season has yet to begin, but somehow I have already netted the biggest victory of my career.

At the end of every season, we (are supposed to) collect jerseys from the kids to reuse the following season.  When not enough are collected, the league has to buy new jerseys.  You’ll never guess who ”forgot” to collect jerseys for the past two seasons.  No, not me.  I always make it a point at the end of the season to delegate my roommate and co-coach to collect jerseys.  So technically he is responsible for this, although by putting him in charge of jersey collection I have a pretty good idea of where that is going to leave us… collecting 3 of 11 jerseys each year. As a result, the league is going to buy new jerseys and the commissioner was kind enough to ask if we wanted to change team names so he can order the appropriate jersey.  So, as of earlier today, I am the former coach of the Giants and current coach of the Rockies!  This is already my best season ever!

Well done, sir. It’s a proud day for your entire league, as it basks in the warm glow of Purple Mountain’s majesty.

I have to object, however, to that picture of you being used here. Now I’m craving delicious ballpark food, and we’re still months away from Opening Day!

Good work, Scott! Do you also get to pick their numbers? Because having a 17 at first is totally good luck.

Abreana January 28th at 9:31 pm

Ah, congrats Scott! I hope your Rockies have a fabulous season.

Perhaps you could take a picture of the new jerseys and post it on the site?

I don’t get to pick the numbers that we order, but I will get to pick which player gets each uniform. I will try to distribute numbers as appropriately as possible.

Be sure to periodically draw a really awesome beard on the face of whoever wears #19.

Perhaps I’ll force the kids to take hormones so they can grow their own.

Ted February 2nd at 8:26 am

You mean you haven’t been forcing hormones on them already? I thought you were teaching them how to play baseball.

Scott February 2nd at 1:16 pm

That could have devastating consequences for my team. It would only take about 10% improvement from my players for them to be taken from me in order to replace the Nats starters. Of course, this excludes Tony Plush, Ryan Zimmerman, and Adam Dunn (although my kids would be better in the field than Dunn).

ted when you say huston street does xyz ‘on the reg’ it sounds a lot like you’re saying something else entirely. i dunno, maybe the kids are saying ‘on the reg’ these days, but i hope huston street stays ‘off the reg’ this season.

Ted February 3rd at 10:21 am

I’m not sure “on the reg” has caught on with the kids just yet, but that seemed like a line of conversation where Kenny Powers needed to be paraphrased.

That soundbyte gets a little graphic. So, you know: discretion advised, NSFW, etc.

Thanks for the encouraging words, Ty! I’m glad you enjoyed that game where the photo was taken, but I think the question on everyone’s mind is: How was the lemonade? Or maybe I’m just thirsty.
