500 is the Magic Number

by Scott - posted Thursday, June 18th, 2009

- Rockies win – Rox record improves to 33-33, hitting the .500 mark for the first time since being 4-4.

- Rockies win – Jim Tracy’s career managerial record evens up at 577-577.

- W for Ubaldo – brings his mark up to 6-6, the first time his record would hit .500 this season.

- W for Ubaldo – evens up his career mark at 22-22.  Appearing in 3 seasons prior to this one, Ubaldo has never finished a season with a winning or losing record. (0-0 in 2006, 4-4 in 2007, 12-12 in 2008)

- 4 total bases in 4 at-bats for Ian Stewart – brings his slugging % to .500.

- 7 total bases in 5 at-bats for BARMESSSSS! - brings his slugging % to .500.

- If Ubaldo can go deep into this game, pitching 129 innings while striking out 188 hitters, he’ll hit 500 career IP and K’s.

- Ubaldo goes the distance – Huston Street doesn’t have to come in to save the game, thus ensuring his record stays at 1-1.

Seven Striggidy Straight

Ian Stewart

During the week-long streak:

50 runs scored, 16 runs allowed

Barmesssss! - 14 for 30 (.467), 3 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 10 RBI

Ian “Disco” Stewart - 11 for 32 (.344), 3 doubles, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 1 SB (we’ll forgive the 8 strikeouts to 1 walk)

Tulo - since returning from injury - 5 games played - 6 for 17 (.353), 1 double, 2 HR, 1 SB

Pitching - Awesome.  I don’t have time to look up the individual stats, but 16 runs allowed in 7 games, 6 of those games against teams with the 5th (MIL) and 6th (STL) highest run outputs in the NL this season.

Jim Tracy - 9 and 4 as Rockies skipper.

Life - Good.

Aaaaaaand He’s Gone.

by Ted - posted Friday, May 29th, 2009

Clint Hurdle is Rockies manager no more.  In case you missed it, the Rockies held a press conference Friday afternoon to announce that Hurdle has been fired and bench coach Jim Tracy has been named interim manager.

Hurdle

Personally, I think O’Dowd and the Monforts did this just to spite Scott and me after our lengthy discussion of how we didn’t think Hurdle would be fired during this homestand.  Jerks.  Even as I was saying it, I got the creepy feeling I’d be proved wrong very quickly.  And as I said, team management can only stand by a guy for so long once the local writers and the fans start loudly calling for his head.

Another way the Rockies front office has masterfully made Scott and me look foolish was their naming of Jim Tracy as interim manager instead of hitting coach and American hero Don Baylor.  It’s not that we’ve got any beef with Tracy, other than he used to manage the stupidface Dodgers.  The firing of Hurdle was clearly a move to appease an angry fanbase.  What better way to bring smiles to their faces than to reinstate the club’s very first manager, squad commander of the Blake Street Bombers?  Oh well, it’s not like Scott and I aren’t used to being wrong about a lot of things.  But we are sad to see Clint go.

Regardless, we’ll cross our fingers that the Tracy era will be a glorious one for the Rockies.  Also, Rockiescast extends its thanks to Mr. Hurdle for his years of service as manager.
