Carlos Gonzalez On-Demand

by Ted - posted Monday, August 30th, 2010

Another week, another re-post of an awesome video. This installment will be hard to top.

Brett over at Tedquarters.net has done a great service to humanity: he has brought Carlos Gonzalez’s Taco Bell ad to the web!  I assume that Brett has already been named an Honorary Ted for his work.

You can watch the video below if your browser is cool enough to handle that. If it doesn’t display, check it out here.

Oh, and Carlos: thanks for providing today’s cheap tacos.  Has anyone ever told you that you’re ridiculously good at baseball?

Taco Seasoning

Happy TacoSad Taco

Carlos Gonzalez has your tacos right here…again.

With the Rockies putting up seven or more runs on Wednesday and Thursday nights this week, the fine people of Colorado are treated to two consecutive days of taco specials at a certain Mexican-themed fast food chain.

It’s been much discussed this season that the Rockies have been struggling to produce runs while the pitching has been dominant.  With the bats waking up (hopefully for good this time), this seems like a good opportunity to take a look at taco stats so far in 2010 to see evidence of these trends.

-The Rockies have invoked the cheap taco deal by scoring seven or more runs in a game 16 times.

-There have been 14 happy taco days, where the Rockies trigger the taco deal in a winning effort.

-If you’re too lazy to do the math, that means Thursday night’s extra-inning loss accounts for only the second sad taco day all year.  That stat can speak to both the pitching dominance and offensive struggles the Rockies have shown this season.  In order for a sad taco day to be possible, the Rockies offense must score at least seven runs and the pitchers must give up at least eight.

-Based on those minimum requirements, the lack of sad tacos in our lives has more to do with good pitching than bad run production.  While the Rockies have scored seven or more in 16 games this year, the pitching staff has surrendered eight or more runs only seven times.  By June 25 last season, the Rockies had scored seven or more on 21 occasions, while allowing eight or more on 14 occasions.

    I’d Like To Nominate Spilly…

by Scott - posted Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

… for president of the universe!

Man, that was an awesome end to the Giants series.  But I do have one complaint.  Why couldn’t Spilly hit a five-run homerun so I could get cheap tacos?

Sure I'll sign an autograph. Then I'll crush the spirits of Giants fans everywhere.

Happy Super Delicious Happy Taco Dollar Hot Dog Day For Eating With Pleasure Night Of Joy

by Scott - posted Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

    happy-taco 4-tacos happy-taco2

Imagine a world where you can stop at Taco Bell for a cheap dinner of 4 tacos and a beverage (from 4-6PM for the cost of said beverage + $1).  From there, you head on over to the ballpark for an evening of delicious Rockies baseball only to find that as one of the first 10,000 fans through the door you receive a coupon for a dollar hot dog.  You have no choice in the matter.  If you’re handed a coupon for a dollar dog, you go get that dollar dog and throw it on top of the tacos in your stomach.  Sure, you might be in pain by the 3rd inning, but you can’t resist taking part in the most glorious of cheap food days, the HSDHTDHDDFEWPNOJ.  It’s the second time this season the Rox have scored 7 or more runs the day before dollar dog night at Coors, the previous coming on April 27th with a 12-7 victory over the Padres.  I recommend to all of our listeners within driving distance of Coors Field, skip breakfast this morning, bypass that sandwich you plan to have for lunch.  Save room for a happy taco dinner with a dollar hot dog dessert.  It’s what Tulo would want you to do.  Who are you to argue with a man that single-handedly lowered the price of tacos for a 2 hour period by driving in 7 runs?

September 8th is the only remaining possible HSDHTDHDDFEWPNOJ of the season.

The Happiest Tacos Of All (and a few random thoughts)

by Scott - posted Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Is it just me or do happy tacos seem even happier when they come at the Phillies expense?

If the Rox were able to sweep the Phillies, which would include taking games against Cliff Lee and J.A. Happ, will the sports media finally stop ignoring the Rox as legit playoff contenders?

When will Woody Paige start ignoring the Rockies so I don’t have to read/listen to him ever again.

Garrett Atkins is now 6-14 (.429) with 1 2B, 3 HR, 5 R, 8 RBI in 4 games vs the Phillies this season.

Todd Helton should stop shaving for the remainder of the season.

    Tulo

by Scott - posted Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

Watch him shine, swing so fine, ropin’ them baseballs down the line
Tulo, Tulo, Tulo, Tulo, Tulo, Tulo
Hit the baseball, to the wall
Smack the cover off that ball
    Six feet, three inches tall
To all Troy’s fans, cheap tacos (with beverage!) To all his fans cheap eats
To all Troy’s fans, cheap tacos (with beverage!) To all his fans cheap eats

Tulo’s game, so fresh so clean

With a cannon for an arm, like a laser beam

In the field his glove is fine
I could watch him play about 1,000,000 times

And at the plate his bat will shine

Hit him a grounder and he’ll gun you down

Opposing pitchers got to sweat him now

Don’t forget his unassisted triple play now

He’s crushing home runs and his bat is workin’
And he’s driving all opposing pitchers berserk and

    Taking off running, stealing bases
He got some speed, don’t disrespect it
Got pop in his bat for sure

Twenty homeruns and you know there’s more
Got Brad and Todd and the boys with him

And we all like to see them Rockies win

Watch him shine, swing so fine, ropin’ them baseballs down the line
Tulo, Tulo, Tulo, Tulo, Tulo, Tulo
Hit the baseball, to the wall

    Happy Tacos

Statistical analysis just got a whole lot tastier. Andrew Martin, contributor to Purple Row and Rockiescast, has done some groundbreaking research in the field of tacos.  Specifically, he’s calculated statistics on how individual Rockies hitters contribute to providing cheap tacos to the people of Colorado. Take a look, be amazed, and start to drool.

Also, thanks to Mike from Ft. Collins for documenting his fever-feeding.

With Every End, A New Beginning

by Scott - posted Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Now that my dream of a record 110 game winning streak is out of the question (the Rays sure proved why they lead the league in runs scored), where do the Rockies go from here?  With last night’s loss, the Rox are in prime position to start a new 11 game winning streak that will lead them right into their next battle with the Dodgers.  One streak ends, a new streak begins, and it all starts with tonight’s game.  How will the Rockies, who have gotten so used to winning these past 2 weeks, handle a crushing defeat (literally, the Rays were crushing the ball)?  Earlier this season, the Padres had a 10 game win streak.  Now, I don’t think anyone considers that much more than a fluke.  The Rox need to make a statement tonight… a happy taco statement.  Those 11 games they just won were not the fluke.  Last night was the fluke.  They need to come out fired up, scoring runs early and often.  The best way to make the fans forget about last night is to have them focus on the stomach pains and indigestion associated with cheap, delicious tacos.  And what better man to have taking the mound than one Aaron Cook?  It seemed like throughout most of last year he was playing the stopper role, ending 2, 3, & 4-game skids almost every time he took the mound.  Well tonight he’s got a chance to end the Rox longest losing streak in 2 weeks.
