August 2009 BotM Revisited
by Ted - posted Sunday, September 6th, 2009
It is with much relief that we present actual visual evidence that Ryan Spilborghs‘ Time-Travelling Conquistador beard of early August actually existed. This oughta silence all of those Time-Travelling Conquistador deniers out there (mostly Giants and Dodgers fans).

Special thanks go out to Meredith for digging this up for the world to see. So um…thanks, Meredith! Her contributions to Rockies society don’t stop there though. In 2007, Meredith won the Stitch n’ Pitch National Knitting Contest with a Rockies-themed sock pattern. Word on the street is that everyone counted out Meredith’s pattern until it won 21 of 22, steamrolling the rest of the National League of Sock Patterns. Her work was subsequently featured in the April 2008 issue of Rockies Magazine. Some of you might actually have that issue kicking around, as it was the 2007 National League Champions issue. Take a look for her feature…we’ll wait.
See…pretty impressive, huh? Out of the kindness of her purple heart, Meredith offers that Rockies sock pattern and assorted other goodies free on her website: www.meredithknitting.com.

With Every End, A New Beginning
by Scott - posted Wednesday, June 17th, 2009
Now that my dream of a record 110 game winning streak is out of the question (the Rays sure proved why they lead the league in runs scored), where do the Rockies go from here? With last night’s loss, the Rox are in prime position to start a new 11 game winning streak that will lead them right into their next battle with the Dodgers. One streak ends, a new streak begins, and it all starts with tonight’s game. How will the Rockies, who have gotten so used to winning these past 2 weeks, handle a crushing defeat (literally, the Rays were crushing the ball)? Earlier this season, the Padres had a 10 game win streak. Now, I don’t think anyone considers that much more than a fluke. The Rox need to make a statement tonight… a happy taco statement. Those 11 games they just won were not the fluke. Last night was the fluke. They need to come out fired up, scoring runs early and often. The best way to make the fans forget about last night is to have them focus on the stomach pains and indigestion associated with cheap, delicious tacos. And what better man to have taking the mound than one Aaron Cook? It seemed like throughout most of last year he was playing the stopper role, ending 2, 3, & 4-game skids almost every time he took the mound. Well tonight he’s got a chance to end the Rox longest losing streak in 2 weeks.

Seven Striggidy Straight
by Scott - posted Thursday, June 11th, 2009

During the week-long streak:
50 runs scored, 16 runs allowed
Barmesssss! - 14 for 30 (.467), 3 doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 10 RBI
Ian “Disco” Stewart - 11 for 32 (.344), 3 doubles, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 1 SB (we’ll forgive the 8 strikeouts to 1 walk)
Tulo - since returning from injury - 5 games played - 6 for 17 (.353), 1 double, 2 HR, 1 SB
Pitching - Awesome. I don’t have time to look up the individual stats, but 16 runs allowed in 7 games, 6 of those games against teams with the 5th (MIL) and 6th (STL) highest run outputs in the NL this season.
Jim Tracy - 9 and 4 as Rockies skipper.
Life - Good.
